Tampa Photographer Laureate Visits Regency Cove

On June 26, Marion Belanger, the Photographer Laureate of the city of Tampa, made two visits to Regency Cove. Early in the afternoon, city officials drove her around several Tampa sites which they selected as Tampa icons chosen as true representations of the variety of Tampa real estate. One of those sites was Regency Cove. Marion was very impressed with the pristine condition of the park, but the afternoon sun was too harsh for photographing, so she returned on her own, later in the day, to catch our beautiful sunset lighting.

Marion is the fifth person to hold the annual position of Photographer Laureate for the city. She currently lives in Connecticut, and teaches at a university. Her website biography describes her as a photographer "who is interested in the concepts of persistence and change, and in the way that boundaries demarcate difference, particularly in regards to the land."

She is a published author, and is currently working on a collection for a soon-to-be-released book on the shifting edges of the North American tectonic plate here and in Iceland.

Her forthcoming book of the photographs of South Florida will be released in 2008. We will publicize her website when these photographs appear. Look forward to this.

Master Gardener Visit Postponed

Due to a back injury, Lisa Strange, the Community Association Outreach Coordinator from Hillsborough County will not be here on June 28. Individuals who had requested landscape evaluations will be personally contacted.

Lisa will coordinate her visit with the July 12 Rain Barrel Gardening Workshop, which starts at 11 am in the clubhouse. She will arrive earlier, and complete the landscape evaluations before the workshop begins. We look forward to her visit and recommendations for more water-wise landscaping hints that will benefit the park.

All Girl Beachfront Pajama Party

After sunset on June 19, sixteen (or so) female residents, clad only in nightgowns and PJs, gathered under the pavillion for an evening of singing, dancing, snacking and drinking. A few late comers were drawn into the festivities, after wandering to the Point for the sunset.

Marie Avant-Mansefield was the official hostess, and Jody Cooper provided the karoake machine that entertained the group for the rest of the evening. The ladies sang and danced the night away, sharing hot snacks and hot stories, so typical of a pajama party. There were even brownies served late at night. The group begrudgingly broke up around 11 pm.

There are no photos to share... what happens here, stays here.

Rebates Available for Tampa Water Customers

Tampa, FL June 6, 2007 - Rebates of up to $100 are available to Tampa Water Department customers who replace their 3.5 gallons or larger tank toilet with a water-saving ultra-low-flush (ULF) 1.6 gallon per flush or less model. In addition to rebates, customers replacing their toilets will save money in utility charges with every flush by using less water.

Rebates are available for single-family, multi-family, and commercial customers, including hotels/motels. Occupants in homes or offices built before 1994 may have a high flow toilet and not even realize it. Most toilets have manufacturer information, including toilet volume, printed inside the tank or lid. Many styles and prices of ULF toilets are available. Information to assist you in choosing your toilet is available at www.TampaGov.net/savewater.

Tampa’s Toilet Rebate Program, funded in part by the Southwest Florida Water Management District Northwest Hillsborough Basin Board, has resulted in the replacement of approximately 28,000 water-guzzling high flow toilets since the program began in 1994. Tampa customers must pre-register before toilet replacement. Contact the Tampa Toilet Rebate Office at (813) 288-8805 for more information and to register for your rebate.
