Yesterday, on a quiet Sunday afternoon, a lone visitor to the park positioned himself in front of our beloved Garpar, and gave him a pedicure, manicure, and a major makeover. Much of the statue base was painted in gold, with complimentary shades of gray and black. Actually the statue himself was not touched, just the base was painted.
What do YOU think? I think the gold is a bit garish, but what the heck, we're talking PIRATE here. This is the only statue of Gasparilla in Florida, to our knowledge. Maybe he needs a little gold booty at his feet.
