May 4 Board Meeting

All board members were present and accounted for at yesterday's board meeting. Our president, of course, was present via conference telephone, a perfectly acceptable and legal method of attending a board meeting.
It was noted at the opening of the meeting, that Ed Scobee has fallen ill, and was, at last notice, in the Emergency Room awaiting a bed, and it was thought that he may have suffered a TIA, a stroke-like episode. Cheri was not present at this meeting. {Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scobee family right now}

Minutes were accepted, but not read. (Why? This was a short meeting!)

A brief Treasurer's report was given by Susan, and then she gave an additional financial report which prompted a motion to fund several reserves ... from my memory, more towards the "new gate", and an additional $20k towards coating streets, and also actually repairing sections of Boulevards 3 and 5 to alleviate the flooding at the Sunset Blvd end of those streets. Questions from the membership regarding the large cracks in the asphalt in all the other areas of the park were answered by the committeeman Tim Reynolds, that, as per company reps who came out to estimate... there are no other problem areas in the asphalt of our park.

Our maintenance mens' uniforms were the next agenda item. Cintas currently provides, replaces, and launders the uniforms of our four maintenance personnell. The old 4 year contract with Cintas is coming to an end this July, and they require a 60 day notice to cancel the contract. One board member called around for additional prices and got a $2k reduction, for a 5 year contract, from guess who? ...CINTAS!! Isn't that unbelievable? The closest competitor is the same company!! A little more homework needs to be done by our BOD. The residents who voiced an opinion wanted to avoid a 5 year contract (if possible) or to continue providing and laundering the uniforms for our maintenance guys. They always look so clean, and responsible.

The final agenda item was, for all practical purposes... dismissed. Another topic became the priority. While discussing a computer software program that the board wants to buy, we learned that TriNet, the company who leases our employees, is dropping us in July. It has been taken over by a larger company who has opted to eliminate all the smaller resident owned communities, namely us. These companies not only provide payroll, but also 401k and medical insurance for our employees.

Our management and directors just learned this last Friday. There was little time for them to prepare any alternate facts or figures for this meeting. The one thing that we learned is that some members of our board are actively pursuing a new course of action, a management company. The shareholder membership in attendance had many questions about that... How much more will this cost, and How do we get get rid of them if they get too aggressive?

Our president Paul assigned a committee on the spot, to study this dilemma. (One board member he assigned was leaving the park, right after this meeting.) No one from the board OR
the membership volunteered for that position. Good ole Chet offered to sit in for awhile. We'll see what happens.....
