Major Theft
Well, the theives are at it again. A shareholder had almost $2000.00 of merchandise stolen from his shed July 25. Protect your property..make sure all is secured. On the other hand, where are the surveilance cameras we've been patiently waiting for for YEARS? Come on, Board, get your priorities straight!

Bob Sukow Obituary
We are saddened to announce that Bob Suckow passed away on the July 18, 2009 in Newton, Iowa. Bob and his lovely wife Shirley rented and eventually leased in Regency Cove for 4 years. 
Last year they stayed at another park but still participated in Regency Cove activities. He was always active and involved in entertainment, most recently the March 2009 Potluck Supper, when Bob and Shirley were featured in the Talent Show. Bob, (in a black and white shirt, facing away from the camera) organized a marching kazoo band and you can see in the photos below that most of what Bob accomplished included harmony, laughter, and an undeniable sense of community. He will be sorely missed in Regency Cove.
We send our condolences to Shirley and her family, and remind her that she will remain in our prayers.

Heart Saver AED Class
This afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00pm, a dedicated group of Regency Cove residents attended and became certified in the Heartsaver AED program sponsored by the American Heart Association.
Thanks to the diligent efforts of board member Marie Avant, who first brought to the attention of the board of directors the need for such a device in Regency Cove, we were able to train the first group of responders. The device itself, now hangs in the clubhouse.
In class today, we learned that with trained CPR, administered after a heart attack, there is a 10%-12% survival rate. If you add the use of an AED, or defribullator, the survival chances jump to an astounding 90-95%.
The situation may not be perfect, but we are not a medical facility, and never will be. In the event, however, that a resident suffers a heart attack during a club sponsored event, or in the pool, or on the courts, in all likelihood, a trained CPR volunteer will not be too far away.
We look forward to additional training opportunities in the Fall when our snowbirds return.

Sunday Videos
About 23 people watched the hurricane videos in the clubhouse on Sunday afternoon. It was an enlightening experience. Without going into too much detail, I think the #1 item that most of the residents came away with was that if there is significant destruction in the park, residents are expected to show up here and take care of it on their own units.
The board of directors, management, and maintenance will be dealing with the needs of the corporation. Common grounds will require immediate attention; streets will need to be cleared for emergency vehicles to enter the park. People may need to be fed, bandaged, counseled, and housed. Northern residents, or evacuees must NOT call for updates on the damage of their units. Residents must NOT call for us to empty their freezers. Your nieces, nephews, and grandchildren will not be allowed into the park without appropriate credentials. We will attempt to keep looting at a minimum. More will follow.

Mosquito Abatement Due
The county officials who spray neighborhoods for mosquitos have promised a visit to Regency Cove this weekend. It will be after dusk.
Please check your homesite and that of your neighbors for any containers that may hold stagnant water. Check the screens on rainbarrels to make certain that they are tight and functional. You may see tiny little critters swimming around. We don't want them. Thanks.

Hurricane Videos Sunday at 2:00
It Could Happen Tomorrow Tampa Bay will be shown Sunday at 2:00 in Goodwin Hall. It is about 20 minutes in length. Immediately following will be the 2005 Board of Directors visiting Punta Gorda, as filmed by Ed Bedore. Very interesting information!

Board Meeting Changed 2:30
The date of the board meeting this week has been changed to Thursday. Cheri and Rose will be attending a class on Quick Books on Wednesday, and many of the agenda items require their presence. I am unsure of the time, so when I am advised, it will be posted. It will be at 2:30, so keep that time frame open.
This meeting, however, interferes with the hurricane disaster movies that were planned for that day. The Weather Channel presentation It Could Happen Tomorrow - Tampa Bay was originally presented on the cable series of the same name. The producers gave a copy to the director of the Emergency Operations Center in Hillsborough County, who has loaned it to us for our citizen preparedness education. The block captains have already viewed the video, and recommended that it be shown to the rest of the park.
A second video taken in 2005 in Punta Gorda, by resident Ed Bedore, shows our board of directors interviewing the manager of Windmill Village, the manufactured home community in the center of Hurricane Charley.
Both are must-see presentations. Things are never quite so bad when you are prepared, and you know what to expect.
