Praise and Blame Are All The Same

At 10am on Saturday morning, the Board of Directors will finally receive a recommendation from the independent Seawall Committee to vote on whether to repair the seawall in places where it is needed, or to replace the seawall with a new one. This is a very formidible, if not unpopular topic today in Regency Cove. I'm sure every Director on the Board has heard from friends, neighbors, and other residents who are not usually involved with us, who gave us their opinions. As a Director, we are always in the uncomfortable position to make decisions that represent all of the shareholders of the park. I would like to share the following exerpt with my fellow Board members, and with all of you shareholders. Feel free to comment at the end.

An exerpt from the New York Times #1 Bestseller Don't Sweat The Small Stuff, by Richard Carlson Ph.D

"One of the most unavoidable lessons in life is having to deal with the disapproval of others. Praise and blame are all the same is a fancy way of reminding yourself that you'll never please all of the people all of the time.Even in a landslide election victory in which a candidate secures 55 percent of the vote, he or she is left with 45 percent of the population that wished someone else was the winner. Pretty humbling, isn't it?

"The sooner we accept the inevitable dilemma of not being able to win the approval of everyone we meet, the easier our lives will become. When you expect to be dished out your share of disapproval instead of struggling against this fact, you'll develop a healthy perspective to assist your life journey. Rather than feeling rejected by disapproval, you can remind yourself, "Here it is again. That's OK."

You can learn to be pleasantly surprised, even grateful when you receive the approval you're hoping for."

I hope tomorrow that all our Directors vote their conscience. In the event of a seawall catastrophe in the near future, all of us may be be held accountable. If the new seawall continues hold firm and barricade us from storm damage in the future, we will no doubt become anonymous fixtures in Regency Cove history.
I personally long to live in anonymity!

The seawall issue is without a doubt the most difficult situation facing the residents of the park since its formation. To add to the grave seriousness is the fact that we also have an antiquated water and sewer system that is in almost as bad condition and before long will also require serious and costly repairs. Situations dictate the action that must be taken. What will we do if we incur this huge debt and our water and sewer systems fail? This is a very distinct possibility. In addition our present economic situation appears to be worsening. It has been pointed out by the park attorney that when we elected our present board members we gave our rights to them. I have always believed thar elected officials followed the desires and interests of their constituents. While the board may not be required to allow the residents to vote on the seawall issue, I believe they have the right to do so if they so desire. If I were a board member or the president of the board I would want to avoid at all costs going against the wishes of the people. I sincerely hope that our board president and board members vote in a way that truly represents the wishes of our park residents.

THE BLOG
I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT SANDY ROSS HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB IN INITIATING "THE BLOG", AND SPENDING THE ENDLESS HOURS KEEPING IT UPDATED. IT SHOWS HOW OUTDATED THE "OUTLOOK" IS.. HOPEFULLY, THAT IS UP FOR IMPROVEMENT. ASSUME FOR A MINUTE THAT YOU ARE A SNOWBIRD, AND SOME DISASTER HAS OCCURED IN THE PARK, AND YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR HOME..WE CAN TAKE A DIGITAL PIC OF YOUR HOME, EMAIL IT UP TO YOU SHOWING HOPEFULLY, ALL IS OK. WITH ALMOST 15000 "HITS" SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE BLOG HAS PROVED THAT IT IS NOTICED AND APPRECIATED. I FOR ONE, WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE BLOG AS THE "OFFICIAL" SITE FOR HOMES OF REGENCY COVE, INSTEAD OF THE "UNOFFICIAL" SITE. ALSO...YOUR INPUT TO ANY ATICLES POSTED IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. DON'T BE BASHFUL...WE'RE ALL ONE BIG FAMILY HERE...PARTICIPATE...WHETHER FOR OR AGAINST, LET US KNOW YOUR FEELINGS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT DEVELOP A DATA BASE WITH EVERYONES (WITH THIER PERMISSION) EMAIL ADDRESS AND CELL PHONE NUMBER. THIS INFORMATION WOULD BE SOOOO HELPFUL IN THE EVENT OF AN EMMERGENCY. YOUR CONTACT WITH THOSE OF US HERE IN THE PARK, COULD BE IMMEDIATE..

I am in favor of the comments from our residents. I do however want to know why they do not sign their name. If you are making a complaint or a comments sign your name. If you do not then it should not be published but thrown away.
